CELTIC POINTS RECORD UNDER THREAT

Celtic fans have had little to shout about this season with the immediate past Scottish champions set to end this campaign without a trophyand things are about to go from bad to worse with their world-record points under threat from Serbian club Red Star Belgrade.

Glasgow Rangers already stopped the ten-in-a-row title dreams earlier this season thanks to the mastermind from Steven Gerrard. Celtic had won the last nine league titles on offer in the Scottish Premiership until Liverpool legend Gerrard stopped their domestic dominance to lead Glasgow Rangers to the title.

Rangers were underdogs to Celtic at the start of the season but the quality shown by Gerrard and his players throughout the season ensured that they emerged with the league title. Celtic struggled under Neil Lennon and the former player had to resign from the job earlier this year. Another former Celtic player in John Kennedy was giving the job on an interim basis until the end of the season.

The Hoops are the current recipient of the most points in a 38-game league after they amassed 106 points on their way to winning the Scottish Premiership title four years ago. That record of 106 points is under serious threat from Red Star Belgrade who have had a stellar season in the first division in Serbia.

During the 2016/17 campaign, Celtic recorded 34 wins and 4 draws for the 106 points thereby earning the Invincibles tag. The previous record was set by Welsh team Barry Town twenty years before the Hoops broke the record. Red Star Belgrade are now on course to set the record again four years after it was broken.

Red Star Belgrade have 102 points from the 36 games played this season and are just two games away from beating the record of Celtic. A maximum of six points from their final two games will see them set a new record of 108 points for a 38-game league campaign.
