GERRARD LOSES AGAINST BELOVED LIVERPOOL AGAIN
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was on the losing end against Liverpool once again when he came up against his beloved team in the Premier League earlier this week. The Liverpool legend saw his Villa side score the first goal of the game before they were beaten 2-1 by the Reds who are in a two-team tussle for the Premier League title.
Steven Gerrard was named the Aston Villa manager towards the end of last year as the replacement for Dean Smith who was sacked on the back of a poor run which pushed the club towards the relegation zone. The former Liverpool skipper left his managerial role at Glasgow Rangers to take up the same position at Villa Park. He was hailed as one of the best young managers on the European football scene during his time at Rangers. The Ex-Liverpool midfielder led Rangers to their first league title in a decade while stopping Celtic from winning a tenth straight league title.
Also, Steven Gerrard achieved the league title triumph by going through the entire season without a defeat.
In a matter of weeks after his appointment as the Villa boss, Steven Gerrard was facing Liverpool at Anfield. Gerrard and his Villa players gave a good account of themselves, but ended the game on the losing end in a controversial manner via a 1-0 scoreline. After a goalless first half, Liverpool were awarded a penalty after Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings was adjudged to have brought down Mohamed Salah in the box. Liverpool attacker Salah stepped up to dispatch the penalty for the only goal of the game.
In the reverse fixtureon Tuesday, Douglas Luiz gave Aston Villa the lead at home before goals from Joel Matip and Sadio Mane either side of the half-time interval gave Liverpool an important victory in the Premier League title race.
