RANGERS CLOSING IN

Rangers are very close to sealing the domestic title, but they are also in the race for the Scottish cup this season. The club were drawn against Albion Rovers in this competition, but they could only draw the match 1-1.

This was one of the several failures that manager Ally McCoist has had to deal with throughout this season. The club from League Two were not expected to put up a fight against the table leaders from a division above them. However, there were more than worthy of the draw at Ibrox.

In fact, they could have gone home with a huge win had Rangers failed to equalise with 12 minutes remaining on the clock through Mohsni. Donnelly had given them the lead after just 14 minutes. Despite this setback, McCoist has revealed that there is no problems and that his team were coming up against a spirited opposition. The club will a rematch in the middle of March to determine their progression to the next round. In the meantime, they could have sealed the league title. They are just one win away from returning to the Scottish championship.

Rangers have been the dominant club over the last few years in the three tiers of Scottish football below the Premier league.

"It is disrespectful to Albion Rovers, who knocked Motherwell out of the Cup. If you look at Mohsni, not having seen it again, he jumps and I don't think he has any idea where the goalkeeper is and it hits his head and goes in. I think the easy decision for the referee was to give a foul, but I thought he was very brave in giving the right decision," said McCoist.

Albion Rovers, though, have insisted that the goal from Rangers should have never stood because it occurred after a foul.
