Manchester City resume the Champions League dream
Manchester City resume the Champions League dream with a game against Sevilla.
The game against the Spanish club could be very important for City, as another poor result will leave them fighting for qualification to the knockout stages. City have never been lucky as far as the group stage draw is concerned and it has been the case for the 2015-16 season as well. They have been paired up against Italian champions Juventus and Sevilla, who won the Europa League last season. Borussia Monchengladbach were seen as the only weak link in the group.
However, an opening game home loss against Juventus put City under massive pressure ahead of their second game against the Germans. A win was of great importance and Manuel Pellegrini’s men were lucky to come away from a trip to Germany with three points. They, however, face an even bigger test just after the international break with a home game against Sevilla. This is the third consecutive home game for the English club and they also have the Manchester derby this weekend. United are also in action on Wednesday night and bookmakers give odds of 8/1 for both clubs to enjoy wins in Europe.
The possibility of only City winning against Sevilla is given at 10/3 while United are being backed at 8/5 to win against CSKA Moscow in their away game. Both teams are first and second in the Premier League table and any result in Europe is likely to have a consequence in the Manchester derby on Sunday. United are aiming for their first league title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge, while City are looking to reclaim the title that they lost to Chelsea last season. The two clubs are separated only by two points in the league table after nine games.
