Rangers boss Mark Warbuton wants plastic pitches to be prohibited
Mark Warbuton has not hesitated in making his voice be heard after he saw his star player Martyn Waghorn picking up an injury that might leave him out of action for the remainder of the season.
Martyn Waghorn has been one of the most influential players of Rangers in this season as he has scored over 25 goals for his team in this season but unfortunately for him, he sustained an injury that is expected to keep him out of the pitch for a significantly long period of time and this has frustrated the coach Mark Warbuton beyond belief as the English manager now wants to see all the matches of top competitions being played in quality pitches instead of plastic ones, according to Warbuton, one of the reasons of why his star player suffered this injury was due to the pitch in itself.
This injury occurred during the fifth round of the Scottish Cup and Warbuton took to the press to voice his thoughts about what happened in the match as he said:
"There is no surgery required which is most pleasing. Hopefully he will be back for the end of the season, but there is a possibility he won't, it depends how his recovery progresses. There is no doubt in our minds, from a coaching perspective and medical perspective; his injury wouldn't have been of this nature if it hadn't been for the pitch.’’
"Martyn Waghorn left that pitch with lacerations and immediate bruising; there is no doubt about that. When we use the term unforgiving, we meant in terms of the hard aspect of the pitch. It is harder than a grass pitch would have been. It is as simple as that. Had that been on grass he wouldn't have the same nature of injury that he has now.’’
The head coach of Rangers, Mark Warbuton does have a point when he says that investing in higher quality pitches will attract more fans to the games and can also help with the players themselves as it can allow more freedom for them to perform without having such a big risk of injury but deciding to upgrade the quality of pitches of an entire is something that takes time to happen and has to go through process which might not be approved by the proper authorities.
