Brendan Rodgers has come out in place of his Rangers counterpart Mark Warburton
Newly appointed Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has come out in place of his Rangers counterpart Mark Warburton for getting the club back into the Scottish Premier League.
Rangers have returned to the Scottish top division after an absence of more than three years. They were forced to play in the lower leagues as a result of financial mismanagement. Given the size of the club and the financial powers still vested even during administration, Rangers were expected to bounce straight back into the top divisions in no time. Former manager Ally McCoist achieved promotion from the bottom division rather quickly, but he struggled in subsequent campaigns.
This led to the appointment of Warburton and there were a lot of structural changesat the club in the lead up to their massive push to the top division. Rodgers has arrived in the Scottish division with his reputation improved slightly after his three years at Liverpool. Even though he did not win anything with the Merseyside club, he is thought to have done a better job than his predecessor. He has to rebuild his reputation with Celtic, who will be judged on two aspects – performance in the old firm derby against Rangers and performance in European games.
Warburton and Rodgers know each other from their time at Watford, when the latter was the manager.“Mark is a good guy. I was only at Watford a short time as a manager. I came in and I was given my opportunity there and Mark was the youth academy director. He was very loyal, very supportive, an excellent coach and he had a good rapport with the players and I am delighted to see how well he has done. He did a really
good job at Brentford and I spoke to him at the
end of that season when he left,” said Rodgers.
