RANGERS WINGER EMERGES AS VILLA TARGET
Rangers winger Ryan Kent has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League team Aston Villa following the appointment of Steven Gerrard as their new manager.
Liverpool legend Gerrard ended his three-year stay at Rangers to take up the Villa job shortly after the November international break started and he has sights on a move for one of his players at Ibrox in Kent who was a loanee at the Scottish Premiership champions before his move was made permanent while Gerrard was in charge.
New Villa boss Gerrard was a major influence as Kent left Liverpool to join Rangers on loan and the move was made permanent after the winger impressed for the club. He was an important member of the Glasgow Rangers team that won the Scottish Premiership title last season without tasting defeat at least once. Kent has 28 goals and 33 assists in 140 games in all competitions for Rangers.
Kent, 25, has a release clause in his Rangers contract and the Scottish champions will have a decision to make if a club offers the fee involved. He has 18 months left on his current deal at the club.
Rangers paid £7.5m to sign Kent from Liverpool permanently and they inserted a release clause of £20m in his contract. The £20m transfer fee shouldn't be a problem for Gerrard and Villa. New manager Gerrard had a restricted budget to work with during his time at Glasgow Rangers, but that's not expected to be the same at Villa who received a British record fee of £100m when they sealed the sale of England international Jack Grealish to Premier League holders Manchester City.
Aston Villa are not the only Premier League team on the trail of Kent . Apart from Villa, Leeds United have also been linked with the player.
