RANGERS FACING PORTUGUESE HURDLE IN QUARTERFINALS

Scottish champions Rangers will have to navigate their way past a Portuguese hurdle to progress further in the Europa League this season after the quarterfinal draw was held last week Friday. Rangers and seven other teams were in the draw and in the end, the Scottish champions were drawn with Portuguese club Sporting Braga currently managed by Carlos Carvalhal who was formerly in English Football with Sheffield Wednesday.


Rangers have been very impressive in the Europa League this season considering that they lost their first two games in their group.The Scottish Premiership champions dropped down to the playoff round in the Europa League after they were eliminated at the qualifying round stage in the Champions League. Rangers saw off Alashkert FC of Armenia in the playoff round via a 1-0 aggregate victory to secure their place in the group stage.

At the end of the group stage draw, Rangers were drawn in Group A alongside French club Lyon, Czech club Sparta Prague and Danish outfit Brondby. Rangers lost their first two group games againstLyon and Sparta Prague, but they were still able to qualify for the knockout stage after recording eight points from their six group matches.
In the knockout stage playoff round, Rangers were given a difficult draw against German club Borussia Dortmund and they were underdogs. In the end, a 4-2 away win over Dortmund in the first leg ensured that they sealed a 6-4 aggregate victory after the two teams played out a 2-2 draw. It was a big win for Rangers at the expense of Borussia Dortmund who dropped down to the Europa League from the Champions League group stage.
