The current manager of Rangers, Ally McCoist paid his tributes to Ian Redford who was found dead on the morning of 10 January of 2014.
Ian Redford spent 5 years playing with the Scottish club and made over 170 appearances for Rangers before he made his way to Dundee United and continued on switching from club to club until he finished his football career and announced his retirement.
A police spokeswoman stated: ‘’At around 11:15 am on Friday police received a report of a man’s body being found within a wooded area near to Long Drive in Irvine. Officers are investigating and inquiries are continuing’’
‘’A post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death’’
Ally McCoist played and worked together with Ian Redford back in the 1980’s when they both met each other in Rangers. Before the match of East Fife against Rangers started there was a minute of silence that was held in memory of the 53 years old former player of the Scottish club, Ian Redford.
McCoist stated: ‘’ We are deeply shocked to hear the very news that Ian has passed away. I had the honor of playing with him early in my Rangers career and he was a terrific lad and an extremely talented footballer who will be sadly missed’’.
‘’Everyone at Rangers sends their sincere condolences to Ian’s family and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time’’.
After spending 5 years playing in Rangers, Ian Redford completed his move to Dundee United and they also expressed how hard it has been since receiving the news about the death of their former player.
Dundee United said: ‘’Everybody at Dundee United is devastated to hear of the passing of ex United player Ian Redford. The memory of his performances for United at a time when the club competed in the higher echelons of European football will forever be part of our history and his winning goal against Borussia Monchengladbach in the semi-final of the UEFA Cup in 1987 will always be looked back on with particular fondness by Arabs everywhere. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ian’s family at this very sad time’’.
