Joey Barton was initially exiled by Rangers after an exchange of words with Andy Halliday following the hammering at Celtic Park, with manager Mark Warburton also reportedly involved.


The midfielder was weeks later charged to court by the Scottish Football Association (SFA) for allegedly breaking betting rules.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has apologized to the fans after their defeat against Celtic 5-1.


Fans around Scotland have been angered by the way Celtic humiliated Rangers and Mark Warburton was keen to apologize. He said that he understands how the fans feel and that the players will be working hard to prevent a repeat of such a performance.

Managing director of Ibrox Stewart Robertson and Stewart Regan arranged a meeting for “early next week” to thrash out the issues after the Bowen Report that investigated the madness that followed the Scottish Cup final back in May. The get together was scheduled for Monday, August 15, 2016 but it didn’t hold. Rather, the SFA Chief Executive tried denying that he was aware of any meeting, putting his reputation and £250,000 annual wages on the line.

RANGERS SIGN JOEY BARTON

Glasgow Rangers have acquired Joey Barton on a two-year deal. The 33-year-old midfielder joins as a free agent on 1 July after turning down the offer of new terms at Burnley FC.

He was the Turf Moor club's player of the year as they won the Championship title to return to top flight club football in England.

Barton told Rangers website "When I first found out there was an opportunity to come here, that got the blood pumping.

Rangers manager, Mark Warburton has stated that his side does not fear Celtic for the Scottish Cup semi-final game.

The manager believes that this is one of the greatest derbies in the world and that the players are motivated to give their best performance.

Rangers will be facing Queen of the South in Ibrox for their next game in the Scottish Championship. Rangers is currently 1st in the table with 72 points and will be pushing for promotion next season. Queen of the South lies 6th in the table, 35 points behind the leader.

Rangers manager, Mark Warburton do not have any new injury worries for this game and will hope that they will return to winning ways after their defeat at Falkirk. The match ended 3-2 despite the fact that the Light Blues took a 2-0 lead early on.

The Scottish Championship league has 2 months left before this current season ends and even though the winners of this campaign still hasn’t been announced as there is time left for any club to emerge and make a charge for the top spot but nonetheless, the favorites of clinching it are Rangers.
